This painting was exhibited at To Rest on Far Sands, Koort Gallery, Subiaco in October 2023. Drawn from Melissa’s experience hiking a glacier in Iceland’s south, this painting meditates on the seemingly paradoxical desire to find safety in the belly of an ice cave. In spite of its ever changing and evolving form, the ice cave is a womb-like structure, crystalline and jewel-like, providing shelter to those lost in the wilderness.
