Anatomy of a Portrait Workshop

Sunday July 5th, 10am – 4pm

Goolugatup Heathcote, 58 Duncraig Rd, Applecross WA 6153

This full-day intensive workshop offers a deep dive into the anatomy of portraiture, designed for artists of all levels - from beginners to more advanced practitioners - who wish to strengthen their understanding of the human head and face within their painting practice.

Such understandings have the potential to transform your ability to capture accuracy and likeness and enable you to work intuitively when photo and life references fail to provide full visual information.

Through structured teaching, live demonstrations, and guided painting and drawing time, participants will explore the physical structure of the head, including proportions, planes, and the anatomy of individual features such as the eyes, nose, and mouth. While the focus will be on oil painting, there will also be opportunities for anatomical drawing and discussion of scientific terminology to enhance technical understanding.

Students will learn how bone and muscle structure influence form, value, and the varied hues of the face, helping them to create more lifelike and expressive portraits.

The group is limited to twelve participants to ensure individual attention and feedback. All materials are provided, including brushes, tile palette, and palette knife for each student to keep.

$50 off early bird fee available only until March 20th.
